Controversial ‘undercover reporter' Stinson Hunter has raised £30,000 in a week on Kickstarter following the airing of his documentary ‘The Paedophile Hunter’ on Channel 4 last week.

The self-styled vigilante who poses as a child online to capture videos of would-be child sex offenders before subsequently releasing them on social media and to the police, was largely praised at large by viewers for his efforts, although the police said the reporter does more harm than good.

Since 'The Paedophile Hunter' aired, Hunter’s Kickstarter page ‘Project #1’ has seen significant donations from over 1,400 people, almost trebling the requested £10,000 in several days. The fundraiser is set to accumulate more capital in its remaining two weeks.

Hunter, with the help of his friend ‘Grime’, will use the money to launch a 'Stay Safe Online' campaign for kids, in addition to releasing another documentary on how the police and child protection services operate in the UK.

On Project 1, Stinson said: “What started in a small Midlands flat has snowballed into probably the most successful private investigative project in the UK: we've got 126,000 online followers, we've caught over 50 dangerous predators, we've won 15 convictions so far with more to come.

“Our hearts will always reside within the protection of children; but it's time for a revolution within journalism. It's time to bring to light the subjects other media outlets are too afraid to delve into... It's time for a change, no more ignorance of the subjects that really hit home. This is an age of tolerance, when it should be time to expose the shocking truth of what is happening right on your doorstep.

Upon the successful conclusion of the Kickstarter, Hunter’s new 'industry-changing' content will be uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo.

Of course, Stinson may have his work cut out for him, with even Google scanning Gmail messages for content showing the abuse of children.
