eBay has promoted Jean-Baptiste Goux to the role of head of programmatic advertising, replacing Guy Jones who has left to become head of commercial strategy at Immediate Media.

In this new role Goux will be responsible for driving the growth in eBay Advertising’s programmatic platform.

He will also work closely with eBay’s direct sales agency Ad2One, which this week has launched a premium marketplace, powered by AppNexus, to offer buyers programmatic access to trusted premium inventory.

Goux joined the eBay Advertising team in 2012 as advertising yield manager in the UK, where he was responsible for overseeing revenue generation and yield management through the programmatic channel.

Phuong Nguyen, director of eBay Advertising UK, said programmatic is "central" to its global growth strategy in the next 18 months.

"We’re working to educate the industry that programmatic is about much more than remnant inventory. Our Advertising Private Marketplace gives advertisers access to premium inventory and sophisticated targeting to eBay’s 19 million purchase-ready shoppers in the UK, and this will continue to be our focus into 2015 and beyond," he said.

Last November former head of programmatic for eBay Guy Jones told The Drum that the platform had seen a “five-fold” increase in the volume of ad impressions traded programmatically via its private ad exchange since it launched the previous year. It is yet to reveal this year’s figures.

Earlier today it was revealed that eBay will split off its online payments system PayPal.
