Apple has issued a statement defending the sturdiness of its new iPhone 6 Plus smartphone after reports appeared in the media of the devices bending in users’ pockets.

Apple reports only 9 instances of bending

Responding to the #Bendgate frenzy, which saw both brands and general social media users create ads to mock Apple, the Californian firm claimed that it would be “rare” for the mobiles to bend under everyday use.

The company said it has only received nine complaints of products bending by customers and added that it will be willing to replace devices on a case-by-case basis.

This number may rise as a result of the publicity the flaw received online however.

An Apple spokesperson said: “We chose these high-quality materials and construction very carefully for their strength and durability and we also perform rigorous tests throughout the entire development cycle. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus meet or exceed all of our high quality standards to endure everyday, real life use.

“With normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus. As with any Apple product, if you have questions please contact Apple.”

This comes after a rocky launch for the firm’s new flagship mobiles which also saw it abort the new phone-breakingly buggy iOS 8 operation system.
