Cristiano Ronaldo hits 30m fans on Twitter - the world's most followed sports star by 10m
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has sealed his place as the world's most followed sports star on Twitter, after reaching a massive 30 million followers on Wednesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the world's most recognisable footballers
In sports, Ronaldo’s 30 million supporters trumped second-placed Brazillian footballer Kaka who had 20 million subscribers. In third place was basketballer Le Bron James with followers totalling 15 million. Next were footballers Neymar Junior and Ronaldinho who raked in 14.4 and 10.7 million followers respectively.
Outside of sport, Ronaldo's Twitter came only 13th place on the social network's most-followed list. Katy Perry remained the most popular account on the social network with almost 57.5 million.
Ronaldo celebrated the milestone in a tweet to his fans.
Wow! Reached the 30 million followers on Twitter, it’s amazing. Thanks everyone.

The top two followed football clubs on the site were Spanish with Real Madrid’s 12.8 million fans trumping Barcelona’s 12.7 million. Topically, Arsenal ranked third with 4.5 million closely followed by rivals Chelsea with over 4.1 million fans.
Even off pitch the Real Madrid star is a success. The Portuguese internationalist in August starred in a bizarre Japanese ad promoting a smile-enhancing exercise tool which immediately went viral.
