In an announcement to the stock market this morning Trinity Mirror said it had admitted legal liability in a further four cases of the alleged interception of voicemails.

The settlements follow the conviction of journalist Dan Evans who, earlier this year, told an Old Bailey jury that he hacked phones of "well-known people and those associated with them” between 2002 and 2004 while working as show business correspondent for the Sunday Mirror.

Amongst those whose voicemails were intercepted by Evan's were James Bond star Daniel Craig and actress Sienna Miller.

In July the newspaper group said it was setting aside £4m to deal with civil actions relating to the illegal interception of voicemails and in the statement today said that the resolved claims were part of those anticipated at the time of that announcement.

To date, six former journalists have been interviewed as part of the police investigation into phone hacking at Trinity Mirror titles including Piers Morgan, former editor of the Daily Mirror, who spoke to police this February.

The Drum contacted Trinity Mirror for comment but was told it had nothing further to add to the stock market announcement.

Trinity Mirror's share price was unaffected by the announcement rising 0.55 per cent in early trading.
