People on the move: hires and departures at Yahoo, National Trust, Moneysupermarket and more

This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key moves below.

Yahoo

Yahoo has appointed Tom Toumazis, as head of partnerships EMEA with immediate effect.

With 30 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry, including The Walt Disney Company and Endemol, Toumazis will oversee partnership efforts for Yahoo EMEA with particular focus on core markets in this region and work in collaboration with the global partnerships team.

He will be focused on business development activities and will also work closely with the sales, media and ad technology teams.

National Trust

The National Trust has hired a new head of digital, Tom Barker, following a recent £40m investment into its digital offering, which will see the charity’s website, app and entire digital infrastructure overhauled.

Speaking to The Drum, Barker, who joined the charity from the BBC’s digital lab project, admitted that the biggest challenge he will face in the new role is making sure the investment comes to fruition in 2015.

“The challenge for me over the next six months or so is landing that because it is a huge job,” he said. “The sheer scale and ambition of the Trust is another challenge; it’s an achievable ambition, but it’s a question of setting ourselves up for 2015 and beyond and we have to invest in a digital offering.

Moneysupermarket

Sharon Flaherty, previously group head of PR and social media at Moneysupermarket, has left the comparison site to start her own agency – with the Guardian as one of its first clients.

Called BrandContent, the boutique content marketing and digital consultancy opens with four members of staff.

News UK

News UK is to launch a native advertising-dedicated division, which will be spearheaded by Sunday Times editor Tiffanie Darke.

Darke will step down from her role as editor of Style magazine to head up the new unit, which has been created to help brands deepen their engagement with the Sunday Times and The Sun’s audiences via commercial tie-ups.

Darke is now in the process of recruiting a team for the unit, which will launch in the next few months.

Starcom

Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) has appointed Sue Frogley to its team as global commercial director, where she will be responsible for building commercial relationships.

Joining the team from Dentsu Aegis Media, Frogley will work across all of SMG’s global network clients and will drive client revenue in the newly created role.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at such an exciting time in the industry and look forward to becoming part of their entrepreneurial talent and helping promote best-in-market offerings across SMG’s portfolio.”

Propel

Digital recruitment consultancy, Propel London, has promoted James Webb and Thomas Chambers to the roles of managing director and chairman respectively.

Webb was previously commercial director while Chambers was a non-executive director.

In a statement Webb said: “Propel is in a really exciting period of change and becoming the managing director at this point in time is a great challenge. We have added Contract and Executive Search teams to our arsenal and our core of permanent contingency is developing its account focused work.”

Dentsu Aegis

Dentsu Aegis has appointed Trinity Mirror chief operating officer, Mark Hollinshead as a non-executive director.

Hollinshead announced his decision to leave the newspaper publisher in August to become group CEO of Nova International, which organises sporting events including the Great North Run. He will join the regional business of Dentsu Aegis in October.

HeyHuman

HeyHuman is bolstering its creative team with the hire of Shnoosee Bailey to the role of creative director.

Bailey, who joins from her previous role as executive creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi X, will be responsible for driving creative strategy for all the agency’s clients including Sony Mobile, Superdrug, Diageo, Suntory, Unilever, Mars, Morrisons, and Danone.

On her appointment Bailey commented: “I love the fact that HeyHuman has such a strong belief system in how behaviours should build brands. It drives the way they approach strategy, creative and building the agency specialisms. There is also an incredible energy and ambition about the agency.”

Shoot the moon

Manchester-based creative agency, Shoot the Moon, has appointed a head of digital strategy, Derek Baker, to drive its digital offering.

The position of head of digital strategy is new to the agency, and was created as part of a wider move to utilise emerging technologies and develop a more integrated on and offline model.

Commenting on his role, Baker said: “Prior to joining Shoot the Moon, I had been working on a number of freelance projects, which enabled me to explore new digital ways of working for a number of businesses.

“However, I was drawn to the opportunity of joining such a well-respected and creative agency, and immersing myself in rich and varied briefs for leading brands.”

Adform

Adform, the ad tech partner for US and European media agencies, trading desks, advertisers and publishers, has appointed Andreas Dooley to the role of commercial director UK.

Dooley previously led sales operations at QUISMA GroupM UK after managing key agency accounts at the online ad exchange Adjug.

Propeller

PR company Propeller has hired Marketing Week’s deputy editor Branwell Johnson to head up its new B2B content marketing arm along and appointed Matt Phillips to the newly-created role of director, client services and strategy.

The new content play will sit outside and separate to Propeller’s established PR operation. It will aim to create, curate and publish "owned media" for clients that their business customers want to consume.

As Propeller PR continues to expand its client base, practice areas and services, Phillips will provide ongoing counsel and strategic advice for all clients.

Chango

Programmatic ad company Chango has hired Keith Lorizio as its new chief revenue officer to drive the company’s revenue strategy, identify new opportunities and expand the sales and client development teams.

Lorizio was previously VP of US sales and marketing for Microsoft’s advertising business and will be based out of Chango’s New York office.

Exchange Lab

Continuing its foray into the US market, programmatic digital media marketplace Exchange Lab has announced a structural reorganisation of its North American sales team.

Global product director Veerle De Lombaerde has been promoted to VP, enterprise, global; Nikki Hawke has been promoted from her current role of marketing director to VP marketing; and Thierry Bazay, Canadian general manager has been named VP, strategic partnerships, North America.

Meanwhile, Exchange Lab’s Richard Jones has been promoted from sales director to VP of agency sales, agency team lead Yaryna Hatcher is now director of sales, Canada and former account manager Diana Lee has been appointed director of client services.

Danwood Group

Print and document solutions company, the Danwood Group has appointed Douglas Greenwell into the new role of group strategy and marketing director following a £5m investment programme.

Previously, Greenwell was sales and strategy director at G4S, and in his new role will work closely with the sales team and help develop the new customer segmentation.

Greenwell said: “The print industry is changing and Danwood has already developed a compelling proposition for leading the market in this change. I look forward to bringing my experience of customer-focused strategy development to the team helping Danwood become more widely recognised as a market leading brand.”

Threepipe

Threepipe has appointed two new members to its social media team.

Sam Van Tilburgh has joined the agency as social media director, supported by account manager Justin Schwartz.

Van Tilburgh started his own internet publishing company as a teenager in the 1990s, before spending nearly 10 years at Microsoft subsidiary Lionhead Studios, where he was responsible for global community, social media and video content campaigns.

Schwartz began his career in New York working for 360i as a social publicist, where he was responsible for developing relationships with online influencers to collaborate on client-integrated content.
