If Scotland votes Yes today, the UK flag will need to change according to The Flag Institute.

So this week The Drum issued an open challenge to creatives to redesign a new Union Flag without Scotland.

Ranging from serious reworks to tongue-in-cheek parodies, we received a mixed bag of 70 fantastic flags and yesterday our readers voted for the design they thought should represent the UK if Scotland goes independent.

Hundreds of votes were cast and we can now reveal in descending order the top 10 flags as chosen by our readers – with the most popular choice being made for real by MrFlag.com.

10. By Dan Fleming

9. By David Jones

8. By Sherry Design Studios

7. By Debi McCormack

6. By Ben Farrell

5. By Simon Tomlin

4. By Tim Masters

3. Studio Tri

2. By David Clegg

1. By Emma Hopkins

Well done to Emma Hopkins, whose reworking of the Union Flag was chosen as the best by our readers.

"The power of colour is forever underestimated," Emma explained in her rationale.

"By combining the English and Welsh flag colours, we needn't change the structure design, however the impact of change is still present."

Emma's design will be made for real by MrFlag.com and she will also receive a free one year's subscription to The Drum.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to design a flag and vote.
