Europcar appoints Sports at SMG to handle sponsorship activity following Arsenal deal

Car rental brand Europcar has appointed Sports at SMG, a division of Starcom MediaVest, to handle sports sponsorships.

Sports at SMG brokered the sponsorship deal between Europcar and Arsenal Football Club, which was announced in August, and Ken McCall, managing director at Europcar UK Group, said the partnership with Sports at SMG would bring “fantastic branding opportunities”.

“The partnership with Arsenal FC marks us as a pioneer and gives us fantastic branding opportunities in the UK as well as reaching millions of football fans who follow the Premier League throughout the world,” he said.

The three-year deal with Arsenal will give Europcar branding a presence at Barclays Premier League games, and the car hire company becomes Arsenal’s official car and van rental partner.

Robin Clarke, managing director of Sports at SMG, said: “We’re excited to be working with Europcar on building and optimising its sponsorship portfolio.

“The team, embedded alongside our media operation, will work hand-in-hand to drive tangible success for them through several experience based activations.”

The sponsorship account for Sports at SMG will add to a number of activities already handled by SMG for Europcar, including media planning and search and display.
