iPhone 5 is the most widely used iOS smartphone on the verge of Apple's next-gen event
The iPhone 5 was found to be Apple’s most widely-used smartphone, accounting for over a quarter of all the firm's devices, according to a report by analytics firm Localytics.
The iPhone 5 was also released with a cheaper 'C' model
With Apple set to announce its next generation of devices on Tuesday, with the iPhone 6 and iWatch touted to make an appearance, Localytics released a study of over 100 million iPads and iPhones taken last month.
The standard iPhone 5 led the way as the most popular Apple mobile, with 27 per cent of respondents saying they currently use one. Only eight per cent owned the cheaper iPhone 5C - released at the same time as the 5 in 2012. A quarter used the superior iPhone 5S launched afterwards.
The iPhone 4 still saw significant usage, with 13 per cent of respondents claiming to own such a device. Additionally, the 4S was used by over a fifth. The high uptake of the older '4' model has been linked to firm offering inexpensive contracts to users who sign up for a two-year contract - in a bid to combat mid-range Android devices.
Five per cent still owned an iPhone 3 despite the six year old mobile no longer support modern apps.
On the tablet front, Apple reported a disappointing iPad growth slump this year, which saw the firm mostly rely on its iPhone business. Localytic's figures support this.
The iPad 2 was Apple's most popular tablet with 29 per cent of respondents still using theirs, despite it being outdated by third and fourth generation devices - these were owned by 13 per cent and 15 per cent of iOS tablet users respectively. The iPad Mini accounted for a further fifth.
Apple is expected to announce super-sized iPhones and iPads at the tech-unveiling event in California on Tuesday.
