Manchester United has broken the news of its £59.7m UK record-breaking purchase of Argentinean midfielder Angel Di Maria using six-second-clip site Vine, setting a trend for future Barclay’s Premier League transfer announcements.

Angel Di Maria is the the UK's most expensive player ever

The Vine, shared directly to the Manchester United account's 3.13 million followers, shows Di Maria’s number seven shirt, previously worn by the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, being printed in the club's superstore.

The looping videos have become a prominent communication tool in the football world as they are highly visual, concise and integrate well with social platforms Facebook and Twitter.

The clip has been retweeted 13,100 times, 'looped' half a million times on Vine and has received 1,307 shares on Facebook already.

Fans even created their own celebratory Vines, to state the importance of the number seven shirt to the team.

The ‘Red Devils’ afterwards used social media channels to unveil the former Real Madrid player - providing a welcome distraction to the thumping the side took from MK Dons earlier in the week.

Premier League sides are even using the site to announce their match day starting XIs.

The growing partnership between football brands and Vine comes despite the Barclay’s Premier League warning fans that live footage posted on the site will be in breach of copyright law and will therefore be removed by the site.
