180 Amsterdam has appointed Ben Armistead to join its team as head of planning, where he will help with the agency’s future business plans as well as working with brands such as PlayStation and Qatar Airways.

Joining the agency from Wieden + Kennedy, where he held the role of global planning director, Armistead said: “Strategic virtuosity is the life-blood of 180 Amsterdam. Not only does the agency have a brand strategy plaque, in pride of place, on its front door, but also, it is the only agency in the world started by a strategic planner.

“To take such a pivotal role at one of the most talked about agencies in the world, at such an important time, is a huge accolade, and one that I am very much looking forward to.”

At W+K, Armistead was responsible for global planning for Electronic Arts and Powerade, as well as regional planning for Nike.

Al Moseley, president and chief creative officer at 180 Amsterdam, said of the appointment: “Ben absolutely blew us away from the moment we met him. He consistently demonstrates a combination of passion and brand intelligence and he immediately felt like the perfect partner for 180 Amsterdam. He is, undoubtedly, one of the best strategists in the world right now and we anticipate great things ahead.”

This comes just months after 180 Amsterdam appointed Shannon Brennan as head of talent.
