Google has announced a new AdWords tool, designed to let websites discover which ads drive phone calls to the business.

Website Call Conversions is a tool for search ads, which sees a dynamically generated phone number appear on the website when the potential customer clicks through.

When this number is dialed, the call will be linked to the ad, so the business ownercan see which ads actually drive conversions via phone calls.

Anurag Agrawal, product manager at AdWords, explained: “With website call conversions, you can understand which keywords and ads are driving the most phone calls from your website and which are resulting in more valuable calls.

“You can also assign different values to calls originating from different pages of your website. For example, a local car dealership might assign more value to calls from their test drive page and less value to calls from their homepage.”

The generated phone number is created through a snippet code placed on the website, with a unique Google forwarding number generated for each AdWords ad click.

Google cites that 70 per cent of all mobile searchers have called a business directly from search ads.
