Spotify has entered a partnership with music sales group BandPage, launching a platform to "give musicians powerful new ways to sell directly to their fans".

The content sales service went live today

BandPage, which helps over half a million musicians engage with fans across a series of music services, announced the new integrated content sales platform for artists.

The service will allow Spotify musicians to sell exclusive content such as concerts, meet and greets, Skype conversations and limited-edition merchandise, to fans through their profile pages on the music-streaming site.

Spotify, which rebranded with a darker website interface earlier this summer, has signed up musicians Miranda Lambert, Ariana Grande and Porter Robinson to use the service - although more are expected to follow.

J Sider, founder and CEO of BandPage, said: “For so long, musicians haven’t effectively been able to reach their fans with the right merchandise and VIP experiences across major streaming services. This partnership opens up a new revenue stream that enables musicians to sell directly to 40 million fans at the moment they are most engaged and listening to a musician’s song.

“It’s great to work with such a powerful industry leader like Spotify to help musicians increase their revenue and grow their fan base.”

Mark Williamson, director of artist services for Spotify, said: “This partnership represents an exciting step forward in the kinds of offers musicians can present to their fans on Spotify.

“We’re pleased to be working with BandPage to help artists engage with their fan base and create new revenue opportunities.”

The move follows online donation platform JustGiving in announcing that it will become a social platform, following in the footsteps of Netflix and Spotify.
