Sky and ESI Media have struck up a deal that will see the London Evening Standard feature exclusive Sky Sports cover wraps ahead of the start of the new Barclays Premier League season at the weekend.

Designed to support Sky’s ‘More of the games that matter’ campaign, the London Evening Standard will run eight different cover wraps today (14 August), each featuring a different image from the last football season on the front page.

According to the pair the campaign marks the first time any UK news brand has produced so many different cover wrap executions on the same day.

Andrew Mortimer, director of brand and media at Sky, said: “The new Barclays Premier League season is one of the biggest highlights of the year for us and kicks starts an incredible autumn of sport on Sky that includes Test match cricket, Formula 1, rugby union and of course the Ryder Cup.

“It’s been great to work with the flexible and creative team at ESI Media to generate a bold cover wrap campaign that we know will engage fans ahead of kick-off on Saturday and boost awareness of our ‘more of the games that matter’ activity.”

The inside back cover will feature an interview with Sky Sports pundits Niall Quinn and Tony Cottee offering their views on the clubs fighting for the premiership title during the forthcoming 2014/2015 season.

Jon O’Donnell, group commercial director at ESI Media, said the publisher was “delighted to deliver this media first” for Sky.

The inside front cover and outside back cover of the wrap will feature display ads promoting the Sky offering and highlighting the key matches to be broadcast on Sky.

The deal was brokered by Mediacom.
