Sky Sports has upgraded its website services by launching the new Sky Sports 5 channel, and an additional slew of app upgrades, to coincide with the start of the new football season.

The app will see tablets serve as a second screen

The channel, which will go live 12 August, will also be supported by the new ‘Football Centre Score app’ with an improved video section showing match coverage including team form, previews, highlights and stats. It also has a broader set of customisation options for push notifications.

Furthermore, the Sky Sports' official app for iOS, will see iPads and iPhones act as a second screen companion to the matches on TV.

David Gibbs, director of Sky Sports, said: “We aim to make Sky Sports the destination of choice for sports fans wherever they are - at home or on the go.

“Therefore we're bringing more content and functionality to all our apps and website with more of the features users love like video content, personalisation, stats, polls, enhanced match coverage and notifications.

“Ahead of our biggest-ever football season with more of the games that matter in the Barclays Premier League, the Ryder Cup, Formula 1, rugby union and more, Sky Sports customers will be up-to-date wherever they are.”

The Sky Sports website, which this summer appointed England legend David Beckham as its 'sporting innovations overseer' in a quirky ad, has also been revamped with a new design and additional features.
