UK prime minister David Cameron’s official Twitter account has become a source of ridicule for the conservative leader after it emerged it was following a range of odd accounts including “I Like Tits Daily” - a profile claiming to be “the number one account for hotties with nice boob [sic]”.

The blunder, which further highlights the need to vet official accounts more vigilantly, saw a number 10 spokesman stress that Cameron does not endorse or support the contents of “I Like Tits Daily” or other accounts just because he follows them.

The ‘UK Prime Minister’ account, managed by members of Cameron’s PR team follows a total of 366,000 profiles including charities, politicians and celebrities.

Many similar accounts, including spambots, slipped through the PM's filters before 2009, as an automated system was in place which re-followed followers to boost the audience during the account's infancy.

A spokesman said: "This was common practice at the time for many corporate accounts, but was discontinued in 2009.

"As a result of this legacy, the @Number10gov account follows almost 370,000 accounts and we have taken steps to un-follow as many as possible that are inactive, spam or inappropriate. This work is ongoing."

The PM, earlier this week, from a holiday in Portugal, tweeted congratulations to London mayor Boris Johnson on his declaration that he will “probably” stand as an MP in the 2015 election.
