England midfield legend Paul Scholes will exclusively write for the Independent, the i and London’s Evening Standard newspapers to provide analysis during the latest football season, starting next week.

The 39-year-old will analyse the 14/15 football season

The Manchester United star, who is notorious for his ruthless tackles on the pitch, will pull no punches when he is providing his forthright opinions and match analysis each week in the column.

The former footballer, whose post-sport career involves writing for bookmaker Paddy Power's World Cup blog, said: “It’s a privilege to be writing for these newspapers and to be sharing my views as all the drama unfolds. I can’t wait for the season to start.

"As a player I always gave 100 per cent and that’s how I’m going to be as a columnist.”

Scholes, who during his footballing career shied away from the media, will provide exclusive interviews in tomorrow’s Independent, i and Evening Standard, where he will discuss his doubts regarding the next generation of footballing talent in England..

This comes after Scholes last week signed a four-year punditry deal with broadcaster BT Sport.

Scholes’ weekly column will start tackling the biggest subjects in football, in each participating newspaper, next week.
