Commercial broadcaster STV is encouraging viewers from south of the border to keep tabs on tonight’s televised clash between the chief proponent of Scottish independence and the man tasked with keeping the United Kingdom together.

Alex Salmond is set to go head-to-head with his rival Alistair Darling on the Scotland-only channel at 20:00 tonight but ITV has stoked consternation by refusing to schedule the political tussle elsewhere in the UK.

Stepping into the breach STV are encouraging viewers to get online and watch via a livestream on the STVPlayer as the broadcaster lifts its Scottish postcode requirement for one night only. In tandem with this viewers will be asked to participate on social media using the #ScotDecides hashtag.

Those not sick of the assault of procrastination, unshakeable ideology and contradictory interpretations of the facts by 22:30 will be able to extend their independence blow-out via a specially extended edition of Scotland Tonight.
