BT Sport has grown its European coverage by securing the rights to Fifa World Cup champion Germany’s home friendly matches in addition to the Deutscher Fußball-Bund - the German equivalent of the FA Cup.

BT Sports is taking the fight to competitor Sky Sports

The channel will broadcast German friendly games, excluding those against UK nations, but will first feature a World Cup Final rematch with the champions playing Argentina on 3 September.

Additionally, Germany’s DFB Cup will see sides from the Bundesliga’s top two tiers try to pick up the silverware which last season saw Bayern Munich win with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in extra time.

The deal builds upon BT’s European football line up which includes Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, and Germany’s Bundesliga.

This comes after BT Sport yesterday announced a deal seeing four exclusive live matches a week broadcast from the Portuguese Primeira Liga, including all the games from the nation’s top three teams, Benfica, Porto FC and Sporting Lisbon.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “BT Sport now offers a feast of European football action for fans. Added to Italy’s Serie A, France’s Ligue 1, and, Germany’s Bundesliga, today’s announcement gives our viewers a fantastic window into football on the continent.

“Our exclusively live TV coverage of Germany v Argentina will provide an early test of the World Champions’ credentials.”

The channel, which yesterday secured Manchester United legend Paul Scholes as a pundit, will be free to BT broadband customers.
