As Glasgow prepares to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 'Weegies' have been posting highlights in the build up to today's extravagant opening ceremony.

Social networking is central in this year's games with more than a two thirds of Britain's thousand athletes on Twitter.

Here are nine must see tweets in the build up to the games.

1.There will be fireworks - many fireworks.

2. Celtic Park will be a stunning venue for the ceremony.

3. Even Google got in on the action with a Commonwealth Games banner.

4. Tourists will quickly learn how good the Glasgow diet is.

5. The train’s weren’t running any worse than usual.

6. The Sri Lanken cycle team took a pedal adventure along the M74 before being stopped by police.

7. Scottish national treasure Subo will perform at the event.

8. Prospective PM Ed Miliband overwhelmed followers, posting a picture of a lovely country landscape.

9. Those at the event will be treated to Europe’s largest screen.

The ceremony will kick off this evening (23 July) at Celtic Park from 9pm, with performances from Rod Stewart, Subo and Amy MacDonald.
