William Grant & Sons, the company behind Glenfiditch, is reportedly in talks to enter a £100m deal to acquire scotch liqueur brand Drambuie from family makers MacKinnon.

The company, which also produces Hendricks gin and Sailor Jerry rum, is just one of a number of bidders, including Remy-Cointreau, the French maker of Remy Martin cognac, Sky News reports.

Diageo and LVMH are understood to have opted not to make offers for Drambuie.

William Grant & Sons, which recently contributed to the Better Together campaign, generated a turnover in excess of £1bn last year.

The company declined to comment on the deal.
