The BBC has announced it has resolved the technical glitches that affected the iPlayer over the weekend, which left some viewers frustrated.

The technical problems, which also affected the BBC home page, began on Saturday morning (19 July) and continued into Sunday, and saw people flock to Twitter to complain about not being able to access programmes online including highlights of the German Grand Prix and the Archers.

The BBC has issued the following statement: “BBC iPlayer, BBC iPlayer Radio and other parts of BBC Online that were affected by problems over the weekend are now up and running. Our teams continue to investigate the problem to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“We will be publishing more details about the problem in due course on the BBC’s internet blog.”

Earlier today the broadcaster earmarked the expected move of BBC3 to an online-only channel as ‘"pioneering" move, which will act as a blueprint for future channels.
