Former Albion technical and design directors, Andy Beaumont and Jonty Sharples, have launched their new venture Hactar, an agency targeting companies with limited funds such social enterprise, the arts, NGOs, and non-profits.

The pair, who have spent the past three years at Albion said their most recent project for the agency, Nominet Trust’s Social Tech Guide provided the inspiration for the directors to strike out on their own.

The Social Tech Guide is a curated database of projects using technology to effect change. “Working on a project so perfectly aligned with our own values was fantastic, it really inspired us to make the leap and try to do this full time.” said Sharples. “We had the perfect client / agency relationship, working together toward a shared goal.”

Hactar’s mission to work with social enterprise and the third sector was borne out of the desire to help those who want to make the world a better place. Sharples continued: “Through lean methodologies, smart use of technology and low early overheads we can provide top, agency level service at an appropriate cost.”

However, Hactar’s ambition extends beyond grassroots and start-up enterprises. The new agency aims to be part of a sea change in global corporate social responsibility; helping large corporates focus their energies and funds more appropriately.

Founding clients include Young Philanthropy, an organisation which aims to educate and empower ‘a new generation’ of philanthropists to take a leading role in transforming society.

On top of the client work, Hactar has several social enterprise products of its own in the pipeline.
