Social networking platform LinkedIn has acquired Newsle, a service which trawls the web for mentions of Facebook and LinkedIn contacts before notifying subscribers.

The deal will see Newsle continue to operate as a standalone service whilst also being integrated within LinkedIn’s existing products.

In a statement LinkedIn said: “LinkedIn and Newsle share a common goal: We both want to provide professional insights that make you better at what you do.

“For example, knowing more about the people in your network – like when they’re mentioned in the news – can surface relevant insights that help you hit your next meeting with them out of the park.”

It is the latest in a number of acquisitions to be made by the service, the most recent of which was Pulse – a Flipboard style news-reader app.
