Jaguar Land Rover has published a YouTube video showcasing its virtual windshield concept, an augmented reality interface designed to present the driver with all the feedback necessary to drive safely and accurately.

The future vision sees overlays added to the streetscape ahead, highlighting potential obstacles ahead, showing the optimal racing lines and braking positions.

In a nod to video game features the futuristic windscreen can also conjure up a ‘ghost car’ to allow drivers to race virtual cars on the road or compete against their own past performances.

A Jaguar spokesperson said: "The virtual windscreen is a concept at the moment, as the technology doesn't exist today to utilize the entire windscreen as a HUD [heads-up display].We are working with our suppliers to develop the technology, and are estimating it has potential to reach production in around 10 years."
