Google blames Europe for making it ‘judge and jury’ on what can be found on the internet
Google has taken a swipe at the European Court of Justice for giving it the power ‘to act as judge and jury’ over what information pertaining to individuals can be searchable on the internet, in the latest reverberation to emanate from the so-called ‘right to be forgotten’ ruling.
The new law gives individuals the right to request removal of certain links to websites carrying ‘inadequate, irrelevant of no longer relevant’ content about their past.
It has been interpreted as a green light for people to airbrush shady dealings from their past with politicians and criminals queuing up to avail themselves of the new law.
Proclaiming the search giant to be unhappy with this new power however Google spokesperson Peter Barron said: “It’s not a task we ever wanted. Our background is that we are firmly in favour of free expression."
