SPOTIFIGHT, a new app that lets users create “rivalry-based” playlists on Spotify, has been created and launched by creative agency Digital Annexe.

One of the first apps to be built using the recently released Spotify Web API, SPOTIFIGHT asks users choose any two contenders to step into the ring, e.g. tigers vs sharks, England vs France, and the app selects up to 40 tracks for each contender and creates a shuffled playlist.

Iain Reid, Creative Technologist at Digital Annexe, said: “When Spotify announced their brand new Web API, we knew we had to see what we could do with it. With World Cup fever in full swing, we decided to capitalise on the rivalries produced by the tournament to create a playlist generator based on competition, providing a soundtrack for all of the different showdowns that users can think of.

“Spotify opening up its Web API allows developers to build apps that tightly integrate Spotify and create new online music experiences for their users. A win/win situation for all.”

Digital Annexe is based in Shoreditch, London and currently has over 45 members of staff. Clients include Mercedes-Benz and Massey Ferguson, as well as independently developed applications through DA Labs.
