D&AD awards 32 Yellow, two Black and one White pencil at this year's New Blood Awards

On Thursday 3 July a total of 32 Yellows and one White Pencil were awarded across 16 briefs at this year’s D&AD New Blood Awards.

Two Black Pencils were also handed out on the night with Anna Barton, Louise Delves and Sam T Smith from Kingston University taking home one of the coveted awards for their response to and XL Recordings brief which asked students to illustrate a moment in XL’s history.

Edinburgh Napier University’s Paul J. De Ridder and Yme Gorter scooped the second Black Pencil for their response to a WPP brief which challenged students to come up with an idea that would change people’s habits in order to change the world for the better coming up with ‘The Green Switch’, a plug-in that would alter Google’s algorithm to give search ranking priority to companies and products with green credentials.

Other notable winners on the night included the University of Gloucestershire’s Robert Sewell and Vytautas Busma who caused a stir when their ‘Expect the Unexpected’ work for the National Trust brief broke online earlier in the year.

Miami Ad School New York’s Lora Faris and MichaelAnn Cohlmia were awarded for their work on the BBC brief for BBC Connect and Anastasia Bondarenko from DHBW - Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Ravensburg won for Eco Monsters in response to nPower’s brief.

D&AD’s New Blood Awards aim to reach young creatives offering inspiration, learning and genuine opportunities on the way into the industry. The full list of this year's winners can be found on the D&AD website.
