Samsung Electronics has struck a partnership with bicycle manufacturer Trek Bicycle, to integrate its mobile devices into the company racing team’s training.

Kicking off with the Tour de France this weekend, the collaboration will see the electronics giant provide the cyclists, coaches and staff with Samsung mobile and tablet devices, including the Galaxy Gear wearable tech portfolio of products to advance their training and cycling experiences.

The pair will work closely together to identify areas for improvement for the Trek Factory Racing Team, and will use Samsung’s Gear devices to better monitor their health, while its tablets will mean the team can more effectively strategise, communicate and plan in-race routes.

“Fitness and wellness are such an important part of people’s lives, and Samsung is continuously focused on integrating meaningful features into our smart mobile devices,” said Younghee Lee, executive vice president of global marketing, IT and mobile communications division at Samsung.

“Through our collaboration with Trek, we will be able to better understand the needs of cyclists to enhance their interaction with mobile devices and enable athletes and fans to stay connected and active in their daily lives.”

Samsung said that it is “constantly exploring various opportunities” to bring its new product technologies to people who enjoy sport in their daily lives.
