WPP’s programmatic advertising business Xaxis has expanded into Russia while appointing Nikolay Bulanov as the managing director for the new office.

The move will mean that Xaxis now has a presence across 33 locations with Bulanov joining from Moscow-based media buying firm, Media Set, where he was director of business development.

Caspar Schlickum, CEO EMEA for Xaxis, explained that Russia had become a key market for many of the company’s global clients.

“Nikolay brings an excellent understanding of the intricacies of the Russian media market to Xaxis and his experience working with both advertisers and publishers makes him an ideal choice for the managing director role,” he added.

“Programmatic is still very much a nascent slice of the overall Russian digital media market compared to more established regions such as the US and UK, but is growing rapidly,” said Bulanov. “Xaxis has built unique capabilities and products for driving performance and value for brands programmatically and the timing is right to launch the business in one of the fastest growing digital markets worldwide”

Xaxis Russia will now form part of GroupM Russia.
