An American millionaire flush with dollars and a desire to travel has hit upon a novel means of spending his fortune, stashing $100 bills in anonymous white envelopes in public places with nothing but a vague tweet to pinpoint their location. The modern day treasure hunt has already swept San Francisco but will soon arrive in London when the philanthropist performs the same trick around an unnamed city park this Saturday.

Jason Buzi, a 43 year-old real estate investor from California, leads a group who have already abandoned tens of thousands of dollars around the US, guiding treasure hunters with cryptic clues issued from his @HiddenCash account, where finders are encouraged to post selfies of themselves and their winnings.Buzi said: “We want to see how London goes first and then we’ll decide whether to expand it around the UK. Londoners are big Twitter users so I’m sure there will be quite a crowd. You guys seem to love a treasure hunt so it could become a scramble for the money.“I give to charity, but HiddenCash is not about charity, it’s a fun game that brings people together that happens to involve money.”The UK version of the game will feature envelopes containing £100 and may be expanded to other UK cities should it prove a success.
