The World Cup final will be between host country Brazil and Germany, social media predicts.

The research by Meltwater, which comes on the day that the first game of the tournament is set to be played, found that the top 3 countries most spoken about in relation to “win” are Brazil, England and Argentina.

Predictions for the World Cup final were gathered based on social media posts using the word ‘final’ or ‘finale’.

On average the term “World Cup” is generating over 100,000 social media hits per day with 37 per cent of the coming from the Netherlands, while 17 per cent of chat is coming from the US and 16 per cent from the UK.

The analysis by Meltwater also discovered that Wayne Rooney is the most talked about England player, followed by Gerrard and then Sturridge.
