An 11 year-old girl from New York has won the annual Doodle for Google competition after wowing judges with her ornate depiction of the Google logo.

Audrey Zhang claimed first place in the challenge after being tasked with preparing a design for an invention to make the world a better place, resulting in a flamboyant contraption for purifying polluted water.

Speaking to CNET Zhang said: “It takes in dirty and polluted water from rivers, lakes, and even oceans. Then it massively transforms the water into clean, safe and sanitary water.”

To reward her efforts Google awarded Zhang their top prize of £17,864 whilst also awarding £29,770 to her school and donating £11,908 in Zhang’s name to a water aid charity.

Used to brighten up the firm’s spartan search page the Google doodle has become a feature of the ubiquitous page and a platform for many to flex their creative muscles.
