Paddy Power have conceded that their latest shock advertising tactics aren’t all that they seem after the bookmakers apparently ventured into the Brazilian rainforest to partake in some surgical logging to spell out their support for England at the World Cup.A photo shopped image spread like wildfire on social media purportedly showing the depleted tree cover around the Amazon basin which read as ‘C’mon England PP’ from the air.

The image immediately sparked consternation from some, aghast that the natural resource should be degraded in this way, apparently in the belief that the stunt was real.In a statement Paddy Power said: “We leaked a fake photo and everyone went nuts. But every 90 minutes an area the size of 122 footy pitches’ is chopped down and no-one gives a monkey’s. So if you’re twiddling your thumbs waiting for the World Cup to start, log on to blog.paddypower.com and show the trees some love. Chop, chop’.
