The identity of a man who hid hundred dollar bills in envelopes across California before posting clues of their whereabouts on Twitter has been revealed as property millionaire Jason Buzi.

People take part in a hunt in California

Buzi sparked a social media storm when he launched the @HiddenCash scavenger hunt last month to ‘pay it forward’ and share some of his wealth with others after his property business took off.

He told the Telegraph that the project was not created as a business venture calling @HiddenCash an "anonymous social experiment for good".

Buzi, who donates the money along with four friends, has so far given away almost $10,000 and has his sights set on London and Birmingham.

“We’re only going to get bigger,” he said. “Let’s hope the UK shares our sense of adventure.”

On Thursday, Buzi tweeted through the @HiddenCash account and revealed that he would be beginning a new project called @travelfunder to give people a free trip to a destination of their choice.
