JWT has poached DDB’s chief creative officer for New York to take up the role of worldwide chief creative officer.

The role of worldwide chief creative officer at JWT has not been filled since Craig Davis’ departure from the agency in 2009.

Eastwood will report to Gustavo Martinez, global president of JWT.

“Matt Eastwood has everything I have been looking for in a global creative partner,” stated Martinez. “He is a highly awarded creative with an international sensibility, living life as a New Yorker. He is respected by clients and knows how to build global brands.

“Matt joins JWT at a truly piviotal time in our history. Our 150th anniversary, a year in which we as a network are recommitting to creating pioneering work. I am thrilled to welcome a fellow global citizen and look forward to our future together making new history at JWT.”

Mark O'Brien, president of DDB North America, said of the move: "We wish Matt all the best. His new role is reflective of the great work and talent that we have generated from DDB New York over the past several years. We are fortunate to have senior creative talent who are highly engaged on our client’s businesses and we are commencing a search that will consider both internal DDB candidates and external candidates for the New York CCO role. We expect to be able to announce Matt’s successor in the near future, but until then it will be business as usual at DDB New York."

Eastwood is the fifth most awarded chief creative officer worldwide, according to Ad Age.

“Joining JWT, with its long history of creating some of the world’s most iconic campaigns, is an incredible honour,” stated Eastwood. “But joining them as the company hits its 150th anniversary and sets out to define the next chapter in its history is an opportunity I simply could not pass up. Working alongside Gustavo, someone I’ve long admired, is the icing on the cake.”

He will take up his new role mid-July.
