Microsoft is reportedly preparing to move into the wearable tech market with the launch of a Smartwatch.

According to Forbes the tech giant is prepping a ‘sensor-rich’ device that measures heart rate and synchronises with iPhones, Android and Windows phones.

It is understood the device will draw on optical engineering expertise from the Xbox Kinect division of Microsoft, to measure heart rates in real time.

The company, which is expected to launch the device as early as this summer, will now be competing fiercely with other tech giants pushing into the wearables space including Samsung and Apple.

Samsung is expected to launch a smartwatch that can independently make calls this summer, while Apple is poised to enter the space with its highly iWatch later this year.

Meanwhile Google is prepping the release of its own series of smartwatches (pictured above), set for release this year.
