Thomas Cook’s UK sales, marketing and e-commerce director Mike Hoban has left the company with immediate effect after serving for just over 18 months.

“Thomas Cook can confirm that Mike Hoban, has left the business to 'pursue other opportunities'," said a company spokesperson in a statement.

Chief marketing officer Remo Masala will now take direct responsibility for marketing in the UK.

Masala joined Thomas Cook six months ago from Kuoni.

Hoban’s departure comes just weeks after Thomas Cook implemented the next stage of ‘Wave 2’, a process designed to "professionalise" the company.

“Successfully transforming our UK business is critical for the overall success of Thomas Cook and therefore we are constantly looking for the best people in all our markets to support the transformation in the UK,” a statement from the travel operator read.

“In the last 18 months colleagues of different nationalities have joined Peter Fankhauser’s [chief operation officer] team to drive and transform the business.”

As a result of the shake-up, Fankhauser now leads the UK business supported by Salman Syed, who was named managing director of commercialisation for the UK.

Hoban, who joined from Confused.com in October 2012, has previously served at Scottish Widows, Barclaycard, British Airways and WH Smith. He is not believed to have another role to go to.
