Forbes writer and content marketing agency founder Jennifer Hicks has been hired by Albion Drive to replace James Hurley as director of content strategy, who has left to join The Times.

Appointment: Jennifer Hicks

Hurley, also former enterprise editor at the Telegraph, has moved to The Times to expand the title’s coverage of small and medium-sized companies.

Moving into his place is Hicks, who founded agency SpilledINK in 2001, and who has been a science and tech contributor to Forbes. Hicks has also had stints as a media spokesperson for the department of energy and assistant press secretary to US Senator Sam Nunn.

Hicks said: “Communications has radically changed over the past 10 years. It’s a noisy, volatile and cluttered landscape.

“Creating strategic content is intrinsic to any successful communications campaign. Albio recognises this and have created a role that will give their clients the ultimate tool box for success, all under one roof. I’m excited to get started.”

Bryce Keane, founder and director of Albion Drive, said Hurley remained a friend of the agency.

“It has been a real pleasure working with James,” he said. “I’m thrilled about his new endeavour and fully support him; after all, I don’t care what side of the fence you’re on, it is not often anyone gets the opportunity to join a paper as internationally renowned as The Times.

“James has played a key part in our growth of Albion Drive and we have been lucky to have him. He remains a friend of the agency.”

Keane added that Hicks would be a “critical” figure at the agency over the next 12 months.
