Samsung UK and Samsung mobile UK Facebook and YouTube accounts are set to be handled by Cheil UK, after the agency was appointed to handle social media.

Cheil UK has been tasked with shifting social communications from taking a product-led to a more brand-led approach.

Russell Taylor, vice president for corporate marketing at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said: “Our products are how most people know Samsung, but we want them to be aware of how much more we have to offer. Social networks are a crucial channel for engaging with our customers, both current and potential, and sharing information – but we’re also well aware that it’s a very crowded marketplace. We think Cheil UK has the necessary tools and expertise to ensure our brand’s voice is heard.”

The agency will also take responsibility for two of Samsung’s Twitter accounts as part of the win.

Jon Buckley, head of social at Cheil UK, added: “We’ll be taking a new tactical direction with Samsung UK’s social media to ensure all channels are delivering to their optimum for 2014.

“Our aim will be to make Samsung an even more loved brand among both existing and prospective fans, by ensuring all its communications create and join conversations around the passion points it shares with its fans.”

South Korea’s Cheil used to be the Samsung in-house agency.
