London named global selfie capital in new survey
London has today earned a fresh feather in its cap after the city was proclaimed to be the selfie capital of the world by personal mapping service Suggestme.com.
The self-portrait phenomenon’s epicentre is the British capital it seems after a survey of 6.3m social media messages on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram confirmed it as the most popular locale for the medium, driven by world-renowned landmarks such as Big Ben, The London Eye and Buckingham Palace.
Following hot on London’s heels were New York and Amsterdam which occupied second and third spots respectively courtesy of tourism honey pots such as Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.
Rounding out the top 10 were the tourism meccas of Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Sydney, Istanbul, and Athens… although a special mention goes to Sydney Zoo where resident Koala Bears have taken to snapping their own selfies via an enclosure camera.
