Colourful French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn is back in the headlines after launching a defamation suit against the producers of Welcome to New York, a film adaptation of Strauss-Kahn’s sexual exploits after claiming it contained ‘accusations of rape’.

The film opens with a legal disclaimer but the parallels between the on-screen antics of actor Gerard Depardieu and Strauss-Kahn’s own activities were too much to bear for the disgraced former chief of the International Monetary Fund.

Commenting on behalf of his client lawyer Jean Veil said his client was ‘disgusted’ by the flick, particularly the ‘accusations and insinuations of rape’.

Strauss-Kahn’s downfall came in May 2011 when a chamber maid at a New York hotel claimed to have been sexually assaulted by the 65 year-old – although the charges were ultimately dropped with the defendant netting £890k from an out of court settlement.
