Swiftkey, the mobile communications business, has bolstered its management team with the appointment of James Bromley as chief operations officer.

Best known for its smart prediction SwiftKey Keyboard app for Android and SwiftKey Note for iPhone and iPad the firm is now targeting faster growth with a series of senior hires; including chief software architect Steve Spence, who joined from Google; VP design, Scott Weiss, who joined from Misys Plc and Jennifer Kutz, head of US communications, from Moshi.

Bromley’s CV includes a five year stint at the helm of MailOnline where he oversaw its global growth to increase turnover from $4m a year to $40m. Latterly however Bromley has been angel investing and spent time in Rwanda working for the Nike Foundation.

Bromley said: “SwiftKey has been on every Android phone I’ve owned and has always been a company I’ve admired from afar. I’m excited about joining one of the most talented teams I’ve met to help deliver upon their audacious product and commercial aspirations.”

Jon Reynolds, CEO and co-founder added: “SwiftKey technology is already on more than 150 million devices but we plan to reach many more people. James has extensive experience in scaling audiences and getting great results and we’re delighted to welcome him as Chief Operations Officer. Having spent time with James, Ben and I are confident he shares our vision for SwiftKey.”
