Blink, a mobile messaging startup that allow users to decide how long receivers can see a message before it ‘self-destructs’, has been bought over by Yahoo.

Blink announced last night that it will be shutting down Blink for both Android and iOS in the coming weeks, as part of the deal.

The company said in a blog post: “We built Blink because we believe everyone should be free to show the same honesty and spontaneity in their online conversations as they can in person. We look forward to the possibilities that will come from bringing the Blink vision to Yahoo.”

The monetary value of the acquisition is not known.

This deal comes only days after Snapchat, a similar service that promises picture messages that disappear, was forced to reveal that images might not be gone for good, in a settlement with the Federal Trade Commision (FTC).
