ITV could charge advertisers up to £300,000 for a 30-second ad during the World Cup

ITV could charge advertisers up to £300,000 for a 30-second ad spot during a game featuring England in the World Cup.

According to The Guardian, ZenithOptimedia has said that an advert for a group stage game featuring England, shown exclusively on ITV, could set an advertiser back between £275,000 and £300,000. Two group matches featuring England will be shown on ITV, with the team to be seen playing against Uruguay and Costa.

"Interest in the UK depends on England's presence," Chris Hayward, head of investment at ZenithOptimedia, told The Guardian. "In terms of sport [in the UK], football is king. In the first round matches England games will command a high premium but there is no doubt the audiences will reflect this. For young and male audiences these games will be some of the highest TV audiences of the year."

It is believed that games not featuring England will see a much smaller price tag: between £40,000 and £100,000 for a 30 second ad spot.

Zenith added that, unless England make it to the final, it is also expected that ads for the final match will be valued at between £40,000 and £100,000.

Twenty matches from the group stages will be shown live on ITV and ITV4 and 34 games in total will be broadcast live during Brazil.

ITV declined to comment when approached by The Drum.

Earlier today, ITV released details of it's plans to cover the tournament this summer, which will include 34 matches being broadcast live across ITV and ITV 4, as well as through ITV Player, ITV.com and on demand.

The broadcast's World Cup website will include highlights from all 64 matches, including in-match video clips, news and analysis, while Alan Davies will host a World Cup podcast.
