A five-year content deal with Sky, will see Virgin Media add five new high definition channels to its offer.

According to The Times, the deal will see all of Sky's channels, other than Sky Atalantic, broadcast to customers of rival cable provider Virgin Media, as the pair up the ante in the war against BT.

Jeremy Darroch, CEO of Sky, said: “This agreement builds on our long-standing relationship with Virgin Media, enabling us to deliver our great channels to even more homes across the UK and opening up additional sources of revenue.” Tom Mockridge, chief executive of Virgin Media, described the deal as the “most extensive agreement ever signed between Virgin Media and Sky."

Virgin Media customers will be able to watch channels such as Sky Sports 3 and 4, Sky Sports News and Sky News as well, through their TVs, smartphones and tablets.
