The BBC is looking to kick off World Cup excitement as it unveils a campaign, created by Red Bee Media, ahead of the tournament.

Red Bee had been briefed to create a campaign which would launch and sustain the excitement of the World Cup across the BBC for the build-up as well as the duration of the event.

Aardman Animation was involved in the ad, which uses live action and animation to track a group of friends as they share in the excitement of the nation in the build-up to the World Cup.

This video was first aired during Match of the Day last night, 11 May, and will be followed by four more during a campaign that will whet the appetite of football fans ahead of the tournament which starts next month.

James Parry, marketing manager for BBC Sport said "We're delighted with the World Cup campaign that Red Bee has produced in collaboration with Aardman. It feels like a different take on this unique of World Cups and it’s the one we've all been waiting for. We are hoping the British public take Chris, Sammy, Gary and Paulo into their hearts.”

The three 60 second launch films will be followed by two 20 second spots in the weeks leading up to the World Cup, while the beginning of the tournament will see the characters continue to appear on all platforms, helping guide audiences around all the content available across the BBC.
