Lee Marshall, the voice of Frosties iconic brand mascot Tony the Tiger, has died aged 64.

Marshall passed away from oesophageal cancer on 26 April in Santa Monica, he is survived by his wife, son, stepdaughter and granddaughter.

Thurl Ravenscroft originally voiced the famous 'They're Grrreeeaaat!' catchphrase with Marshall first stepping into the cereal-loving tiger's shoes in 1999, officially taking over in 2005 following Ravenscroft's death aged 91.

There’s no word on who will take over the voice of the well-loved mascot, but John Sheehy, of Chicago’s Leo Burnett, told with CBS how they will approach it.

“There’s a lot of voiceover talent, but there’s that certain timber that comes with the ‘They’re Grrreeeaaat!’ and that’s hard to capture,” he said. “It’s really looking for that tone of voice.”

In addition to being Tony the Tiger Marshall worked in radio as a sports broadcaster and professional wrestling announcer.
