The Scottish Newspaper Society (SNS) has launched a new website aiming to become a primary source of industry information.

Launch: The new Scottish Newspaper Society website

The site, developed by the Herald & Times’ head of digital innovation, Grant Gibson, follows the launch of the Scottish Newspaper Society conference, which took place last month.

SNS director John McLellan said: “The SNS has needed its own website for some times and I’m obviously delighted we’ve now got it up and running. It’s at a very early stage but I hope we can develop it further in the coming weeks to provide as much information as possible about out industry.

“I hope we’ll be able to update it regularly with news and comment about the issues affecting our businesses, and for it to become a useful tool for everyone doing business with our companies.”

The site will host opinion pieces and industry insight, as well details of all member companies and links to other media companies and information websites.

The Scottish Newspaper Society is a supporter of the new industry regulator, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso), which is due to launch in June. At the inaugural SNS conference last month, Lord Black said the newspaper industry must fight the UK government's Royal Charter press regulation proposal with "vigour and determination", while Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond called on publishers to get on side with the UK government's plans.
