Tesco is to launch its first own-branded smartphone by the end of the year.

The supermarket chain is reportedly planning to launch an Android version, which is comparable with the Samsung Galaxy5.

The smartphone is expected to be priced aggressively in the higher end of the market, unlike its its own-branded tablet device Hudl, which was launched at the lower end of the market at £119.

Tesco first revealed its plans to launch another own-branded tablet device version when it released its financial results last month.

It reported that its first, own-branded tablet Hudl had sold 500,000 units since its launch last September, and that a “second” device was being lined up for launch later this year.

CEO Philip Clarke told BBC Radio 5 Live that the new smartphone would be pre-installed with Tesco services, which could include its TV and movie service Bilinkbox.
